The Good Travel

Here is news of Lucy, our tourdumondiste. It went in Christchurch, New Zealand and tells us his impressions.

Christchurch was one of my first steps in New Zealand. The city is just a must for anyone traveling in the South Island, you will spend on a plane, bus or car. Since the series of earthquakes in 2010 and 2011, the city has completely changed its face, is under construction / reconstruction and try to save as many buildings as possible. Many travelers who spend a whirlwind and shiver in front of a city that seems well are depressing. I was no exception and quickly went from Christchurch. Yet the city has not seemed so depressing than that. While many buildings were destroyed including the Cathedral, there are also several neighborhoods deserted and many undeveloped areas, but we can clearly see the beginning of a renaissance and a will to survive anyway.
I spent an afternoon exploring different neighborhoods and I was completely surprised by Christchurch. I did not expect so see the damage of the earthquake. The city is still scarred, but in many places, life and hope are still there. There are many parks in Christchurch, several memorials, various art projects (street art, musical garden, etc.), a church built of cardboard and especially a small downtown rebuilt in containers with small shops, markets, entertainment, food street, etc. It clearly feels that recent events have reinforced an artistic and entrepreneurial spirit and strength in its people and that the city has not said its last word.
In short, Christchurch is not a ghost town and can be very interesting to visit. For my part, I would gladly to further explore the city and take the pulse of its different neighborhoods.
